If you missed my introduction post I mentioned that I travel a lot for work. I know this is a common scenario for many people around the World and if you don’t have adequate home security then WHY THE HECK NOT?! Even just for the peace of mind and knowing that my family is safe and secure makes it well worth the money! In the following post I’ll touch on a few key things as well as my current home security set up.
Why You Need a Home Security System
Depending on where you live will depend on the home security cover you need. I live in a low crime neighborhood but that doesn’t mean I cheap out on my home security system. No way. Never. Home security can be so much more than just catching the bad guys on camera, you can, depending on your system check into your home whenever you please from your smartphone- something I do while I’m away! You also get mobile alerts if someone is close to your house – yes that includes the mail man but wouldn’t you rather see your package get delivered safely to your door?
Types of Security Cameras
There are so many security camera systems to choose from, it can be overwhelming at times to know what is best! My good friend Rex started Supreme Security Cameras to help you make the best decision for your security needs. In particular, he put together a post on the Best Home Security Camera Systems which I highly recommend you read. He has complied a list of the best indoor cameras as well as the best outdoor cameras so head on over and have a read!
I’m just going to break this down very simply in the same way Rex did, into indoor and outdoor cameras. For me personally I don’t have too many in the way of indoor cameras but I do have quite a big system of outdoor cameras plus a doorbell camera. There is no price you can put on security and being safe!
My Indoor Security Camera
For indoors I use the Nest Cam Indoor Security Camera just nearby to my front door and another near my back door. If my outdoor system doesn’t pick up on thieves then these are my back up cameras. I have spent a lot of money on my outdoor system and less on the indoor system but I am happy with this decision. Like I said I live in a low crime area.
My Outdoor Security Camera
When it comes to the outside of my house I like to have all angles and all of my backyard and front yard covered. I use the Wireless Security Camera System SMONET as well as a sensor, spotlight for the driveway. The Smonet system was quite expensive and I did pay for professional installation but I haven’t had any issues with it and it works very well! I have 8 cameras situated around my home that cover all yard space. The spotlight is also good but that is purely to deter anyone who steps foot unannounced on my driveway.
